Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird is a common email client that will allow you to connect to an email server to send and receive emails. This document will explain how you can setup your email account to work with Mozilla Thunderbird. One important note before continuing is that you will need to have access to the SMTP settings for your email account. You can generally get these settings from your email provider or your IT person. Some web based email systems (e.g. yahoo, AOL, excite) will require that you purchase this information from them.   Here is the link to download Thunderbird (http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/ )

Step 1: Click on the tools menu and select Account Settings. If this is the first time you are installing Mozilla Thunderbird skip to step 3.

Step 2: Click on Add Account.

Step 3: Select the type of email account you want to setup. In most cases you will select “Email Account”. If you are using gmail you can use that option. This window should also appear during the initial installation of Thunderbird. Click next.

Step 4: Enter your name and email address. Then click next.

Step 5: Enter the required information for your email server. Then click next.

Step 6: Enter the user name that is assigned to you on your email account. Click next.

Step 7: Enter a name that you would like to use to identify this email account.

Step 8: Verify that all the information you have entered is correct. Then click finish.

Finished:
Now your email account should be setup so that you can send and receive emails from Mozilla Thunderbird.



Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is a common email client that will allow you to connect to an email server to send and receive emails. This document will explain how you can setup your email account to work with Microsoft Outlook. One important note before continuing is that you will need to have access to the SMTP settings for your email account. You can generally get these settings from your email provider or your IT person. Some web based email systems (e.g. yahoo, AOL, excite) will require that you purchase this information from them.    

Step 1: Click on the tools menu. Select Account Settings.

Step 2: On the Account Settings page select the button that says ‘new’.

Step 3: Select the first option that says Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP. Click Next

Step 4: Enter your name, email address, and the password you use to login to your email account. Click Next

Step 5: Microsoft Outlook will then attempt to automatically detect your email server settings.

Step 6: If the first search for your server settings fails, click next. Otherwise skip to step 7.

Step 7: After the next attempt, if you receive a message that says “Cannot Send E-mail Message”, check the box that says “Manually configure server settings”, and then click next. If you don’t receive any errors, click finish and your account setup is complete.

Step 8: You can either change or enter your email server information into this window manually. Once completed click finish.

Finished:
Now your email account should be setup so that you can send and receive emails from Microsoft Outlook.



Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail is a common email client that will allow you to connect to an email server to send and receive emails. This document will explain how you can setup your email account to work with Windows Live Mail. One important note before continuing is that you will need to have access to the SMTP settings for your email account. You can generally get these settings from your email provider or your IT person. Some web based email systems (e.g. yahoo, AOL, excite) will require that you purchase this information from them.


Step 1: Click on Add e-mail account. If you are opening Windows live for the first time skip to step 2.

Step 2: Enter your e-mail address and the password you use to login to your e-mail. Also enter a name that will identify this email account. Then click next.

Step 3: Enter in all required information for your e-mail server. Then click next.

Step 4: Your email account is now set up to be accesses from Windows Live Mail. Click Finish.
